Senior Data Engineer

Onsite (5 Days) | Woodbury, MN

Compensation: $120,000 - $145,000

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Data Engineer to modernize and scale our data platform. This role focuses on refactoring Postgres-based business logic, building reliable data pipelines, and preparing data systems for advanced analytics and AI use cases. This is a senior individual contributor position with significant day-to-day coding and database ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Modernize and refactor complex business logic currently embedded in Postgres functions.
  • Design scalable schemas, analytics- and AI-ready data models, and performance-optimized queries.
  • Implement database partitioning, indexing, and tuning to support data growth and reliability.
  • Design, build, and own production-grade data pipelines from ingestion through consumption.
  • Ensure data quality, testing, monitoring, and operational reliability across pipelines.
  • Work directly in production systems to troubleshoot and resolve data and performance issues.

Required Qualifications

  • PostgreSQL expertise is a must have, including advanced SQL and deep, production-level experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or a related role.
  • Experience refactoring or modernizing legacy, database-centric systems.
  • Proficiency in Python or a comparable data engineering language.
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and performance optimization.

Nice to Have

  • Experience preparing data platforms for AI or machine learning workloads.
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow) or cloud data platforms.
  • Experience implementing automated data quality checks or pipeline testing.
